was made that budgets are due August 1st for 2010 and we will need to discuss
this item. Motion was made by Kay Dickerson to ratify the preliminary 2010
Budget. Motion was seconded and approved.
- Bev Uipi of the Salt Lake County Mayor’s Office-The new director has been
named for the Planning and Development Services Division as Rolen Yoshinaga.
All of the 12 White City Township signs will be in place by this fall and they
are looking at the 1185 E. Serpentine Way Project. We need to all have our Tax
numbers by this month. County is aware of the drainage problems in the area
but the county does not have the funding to fix then this year. Code
Enforcement there is one open case and several have been closed. Discussed the
Turquoise Way property. Health and Safety is the primary concern and of first
importance with the property as noted by Mayor Corroon. There is a voucher
program for the Sanitation Department for the community for the use of
dumpsters. Each voucher is good for two dumpsters. Dumpsters will be in White
City September 15 thru 17. Vouchers for the Communities will be available for
$5300 soon so will be able to go forth with our Township days.
- Mayor Corroon talked about Budget. He feels we have hit the bottom of
economic times and we should see gains. Budget balanced for 2009 but we will
need to work the 2010 Budget. Telecommunication fund lost about $3 million and
sales taxes were down. Interest income is way down. Property taxes are pretty
stable but School District split may cause some increase. There will be a
special Budget meeting on 27 august in the council chambers to explain Budget
to residents. Looking at infrastructure in the unincorporated areas. Bonds or
other ways as well as park improvement and regional parks. Wayne Johnson has
met with Sparta Soccer people to see if the scheduling problems could be
worked out. He feels the discussion should help the problem.
- Trisha Beck attended a meeting about Truth in Taxation at the Canyons
School District offices about debt reduction program which shows 97% of the
bond that we voted for the money went to the West side.
- Sheriff’s Report-Brody Waldrum-Sent around Stats report. Bikes are now
covering patrols in the area. Moses Fernandez, a Deputy, who was leading the
bike patrol in the area, is leaving this month. Jeremy Christensen asks Brody
to write up thoughts from the two deputies in the Sheriff’s office who visited
to Bear Park last evening about the crowd and how the situation was handled. A
discussion was held about a recent ABC-4 News report on crime in White City
and it was noted that the Sheriff’s Office and Sandy City does not report to
Crime Stats for crime in the area therefore the report they used was not
accurate.
- Greg Schultz gave a report on the Canyons School District Budget
discussion.
- Paulina Flint passed out a report from a newspaper article about an ABC 4
crime report on White City area crime and how inaccurate it is. Jeremy
Christensen made a motion to have a letter written to the State Attorney
General’s Office about the ABC 4 report on crime in the White City area in the
newspaper. The Attorney General’s office logo appeared on the website for the
crime statics, therefore they should stand behind the report. A copy of the
letter should go to Sheriff Winder, Mayor Corroon and County council. Motion
was seconded and approved. Paulina Flint was asked to write the letter.
- Big Bear Park Master Plan-Troy Blundell in meeting with Angelo Calacino
recommends that we do not need the additional parking. Paulina Flint made a
motion to write a letter to the County Parks and Recreation to create a New
Master Plan for Big Bear Park to take into account current usage and proposed
future usage. Motion seconded and approved. Troy Blundell will write that
letter and to use that money to help with the new Master Plan.
- South East Township Days- Paulina Flint mentioned that we had received
additional money for the celebration. LANTIS Fireworks has backed out of the
celebration. We have additional parking at the Churches and Schools in the
area. Looking to have about 100 cars in the car show. Several bands and Music
groups are set up for the show. Face painting, fire engine, Sheriff’s
Department, and new food items. Paulina has tax information for sponsors.
