MINUTES

  • Meeting called to order by Troy Blundell, Chair, there was a quorum.
  • Welcome, Introductions and then Pledge of Allegiance was led by Paul Smith.
  • Kay Dickerson presented the September 7th, 2011 and October 4th, 2011 minutes for approval. Jeremy Christensen made a motion to approve the September 7th and October 4th, 2011 Minutes. Motion was seconded and approved.
  • Salt Lake County Mayor’s Office, Mayor Corroon introduced our new Community Relations Specialist, Michael Shea and then gave a presentation on the 2012 Budget and County Services. General Fund has a $17M dollar gap but they were able to balance the budget. Municipal Services side is in good shape. Property Taxes will go for the Police Services rather than have a separate fee. Other Services will be funded from sales taxes. There is $2M for Capital Improvements such as, curb and gutter in unincorporated areas. With the Police fee going away the average home owner’s costs will go down about $70. It will take the sales tax revenue about 8 years to get back to 2007 levels, but they are going up. There is a committee working on future plans for SL County as to how Services will be provided and funded. What is the best way to provide Services throughout the County, one city or other approaches? The committee’s next meeting is November 15. “CANYONS” are looking at different transportation plans into the canyons and public safety as well as how other services are to be provided. Millcreek incorporation has about 10% of the signatures needed to get on ballot. Michael Shea is creating a’ Facebook’page to have a format for presenting items to the Councils. He will be asking us to help keep volunteer hours to assist the County.
  • Utah National Guard, Lt. Summers, Sgt. Fonua, and Sgt. Zettal gave a presentation on Community Covenant Program. This is a program designed to reach out to all military service members regardless of service branch. The intent is to encourage cities and towns to formally commit their support to service members within the communities. A motion was made by Don Patocka to support this program. Motion was seconded and approved. Council point of contact for this program is Richard Snow.
  • Treasurer’s Report, Jeremy Christensen gave the report. Checking Account $1350.81, Savings $255.00, Township Days $1009.61. The car show this year had about 90 cars. Motion by Don Patocka to approve Treasurer’s report. Motion seconded and approved.
  • Unified Police Report. Officer Green of the UPD made a report. The report for October was 153 calls and 45 cases, which is down from other months. Calls were mostly vandalisms. Remember no overnight parking on the streets now.
  • White City Cleanup on October 15th. Troy Blundell mentioned that the turnout was very good and all the residents were well pleased with the work done. They would like to give a well deserved thanks to the County workers who were there. There was only one concern and that was that a number of raised sidewalk joints, which were marked with orange paint, but were not ground down level. They were asking will this be done.
